SAS Jazz

SAS Jazz performs in the Denver area as a duo or larger band. They can be seen at local clubs, shows and festivals. Sharon Rae and Shelly Davis have been performing together since they met in Florida and in 2008, they made their way to Denver via Arizona, Canada, California, Alaska, the Caribbean Islands and many other places along the way. Sharon Rae is a R&B, pop and jazz singer and Shelly Davis is a classic and contemporary jazz pianist. SAS has often been called jazz and blues but their music is probably best described as Contemporary, Classic, Smooth jazz with a generous portion of R&B, Blues rock and Boogie-woogie on the side, full-flavored and delicately seasoned. SAS with a touch of class!

SAS is available as a single, duo or larger. Their larger bands include some of Denver’s finest musicians. SAS has performed together since the 80’s at nightclubs, country clubs, resorts, convention centers, festivals and private parties. They’ve also performed at some of the top venues for entertainment including Universal Studios City Jazz and Downtown Disney House of Blues with their blues and show bands. As a 5 & 6 piece band, they were the houseband for Grand Romance Riverships on the St. Johns River in Florida with summer jazz concerts for 11 years and other jazz and blues festivals throughout Florida. SAS creates a custom songlist for each event, working with the client and venue to deliver the perfect combination of sound and style and have done shows with artists that include Dave Koz, Houston Person, Allan Vache and Marc Antoine, among many others.

Sharon grew up listening to jazz singers, big band and Motown. As the daughter of a jazz musician, Sharon was exposed to great jazz from a young age. She had a passion for singing so at the age of 14, she started attending Iris Daniel Engel School of Music in Orlando. Her studies were temporarily interrupted when she joined her first traveling band at 16. But her road experience was enough to make up for any lost opportunities in school. Blessed with a naturally sultry and powerful voice, Sharon was soon on the club circuit in venues from Miami up to Atlanta and down to New Orleans. Sharon has graced the stages of literally hundreds of venues on land and at sea!

Shelly Davis grew up in New York, part of a musical family that included a boogie-woogie pianist aunt, swing violin grandfather and jazz sax uncle. Shelly won a Downbeat scholarship for his improvisational music and rounded out his jazz background listening to blues and 60’s r&b. In 1968 he joined Johnny Maestro (16 Candles et al.) and the Del Satins (Runaround Sue et al. with Dion) to form the Brooklyn Bridge (gold record – Worst That Could Happen). Later, Shelly played for several years in Nashville, Aspen, Boulder and Kansas City with his jazz, blues and original groups and has done shows with Mose Alison, Larry Coryell, Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Bonnie Raitt. In 2006, Shelly was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
